Health Information Management (HIM) professionals play a critical role in maintaining, collecting and analyzing the data that healthcare professionals rely on to deliver quality health care. As the experts in patient health data management, HIM professionals work in a variety of health care settings including hospitals, outpatient clinics, government agencies and private industry. As emerging technologies work towards a fully electronic future, HIM professionals are needed to fill the growing work force. They will improve efficiency in health care facilities by optimizing efficiency in billing and improving electronic data integrity through quality management. Since HIM professionals, are ultimately related in the business of saving lives, getting accurate facts and data quickly is literally a life-and-death proposition. From patient data and medical notes to insurance facts and billing details, our current healthcare system is built upon information. Because of this, there is a significant need for professionals who understand these systems and regulations. With OHIMI's, Health Information Management (HIM) degree program, the student will be prepared to help streamline patient care issues, by gaining the knowledge and confidence to work with others at the management table to develop policies and processes that provide quick access to critical patient data while ensuring confidentiality and the proper release of patient information. The candidates will earn a degree that combines concepts in Basic Sciences, information management, information technology, and organizational leadership, giving the graduates the skills needed to succeed in the fields of health informatics and health information management. Students learn how to integrate the management of health information while adhering to international standards.  When combined with information governance and the principles of teamwork, they will have the confidence to develop and implement information systems solutions for any organization. The students can add practical value to learnt theory during their Professional Practice in the industry, by developing a significant research project on a topic, which gives them the opportunity to showcase the skills they learned during the program, in the area of their specialization.
