Al Dakhiliya Region occupies an important strategic part of the Sultanate as it connects to all other regions in the Sultanate. It is surrounded from the north by the Governorate of Muscat and South Batinah Region, in the south by Al Wusta Region, in the east by Sharqiya Governorate and in the west by Dhahira Governorate.

OCHS, Al Dakhiliya Branch was established in 1997 (previously Al Dakhiliya Nursing Institute) with an intake of 35 general nursing students and started its operation in the premises of Nizwa Nursing Institute. The OCHS, Al Dakhiliya Branch (formerly Al Dakhiliya Nursing Institute) was formally inaugurated in October 1998 in its own campus located within Nizwa Hospital. The Al Dakhiliya branch used to offer Post Basic Diploma in Midwifery program from 2004, administered and monitored by the Oman Specialized Nursing Program. Currently, the institute offers only two programs namely: General Foundation Program and Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program.

The college aims to provide quality education in conducive learning environment so as to meet the health care needs of society. In line with the vision, values, and the mission of the Oman College of Health Science (OCHS), Al Dakhiliya branch is committed to produce reflective Omani health care professionals who can provide effective, safe, competent and quality of care to the citizens living in Oman. Collaborative learning and conducive working environment fosters professionalism, life-long active learning, effective communication and interpersonal skills, and a safe, competent culturally relevant care. Al Dakhiliya branch strives and supports the national of 2040, where one of its importance goals is Omanization of the nursing workforce throughout the Sultanate.
