OCHS - Suhar Branch

Oman College of Health Sciences – Suhar Branch, formerly Suhar Nursing Institute (SNI) was established in Suhar - North Batinah Governorate - in September 1991 with an intake of 35 general nursing students.  The nursing program aims at preparing Omani nurses to meet the needs of hospitals and health care institutions of qualified and skillful nursing workforce.  In order to ensure fair and equitable admission into the program, the students are selected through the Higher Education Admission Center (HEAC), following the criteria stipulated by the college bylaws.

In 2018, the Royal Decree No. (18/2018) was issued to establish the Oman College of Health Sciences.   All specializations, allocations, assets, rights and files belonging to the Ministry of Health in Muscat and governorates shall be transferred to Oman College for Health Sciences. Nursing institutes belonging to the Ministry of Health in governorates shall act as branches for the college.

The college currently offers two programs, Foundation and Bachelor of Nursing Program. The students start the foundation program, which focuses on English language, computer, mathematics, and study skills. After completing this stage, they start the bachelor’s program in general nursing for a period of four years, which includes teaching and training students on various nursing materials that qualify them to work at various levels of health care in the Sultanate.

In line with its vision, mission and values, the college provides quality education to support the health institutions of the region by continually responding to the changes & demands of the program and the community. The college has a collaborative learning and working environment that fosters professionalism, innovation, empowerment, belongingness, and transparency. Guided by the principles of quality and improvement, the college strives to contribute significantly to Omanization of the nursing workforce in the governorate.
